Man Utd 0-0 Charlton

My last few reports have not exactly been joyous, although I am trying my best to look on the bright side. Afterall, it is a sign of our greatness that a failure of a season consists of coming third in the league and making the semis in Europe. Not winning any silverware, losing twice to Arsenal and Liverpool, and surrendering the title at home were all fairly miserable, but United will bounce back.

People are saying United’s domination is over, but I am ignoring them. I have heard it all before; namely in 1995 and 1998 when we came back with avengence the next seasons. Arsenal are indeed a fantastic side, but we will match them and improve on this season in years to come. Fergie will I am sure bring in a couple of new faces, and a few will leave too, in fact a few already have.

I do not wish to dwell on a largely uneventful and boring home match against Charlton, except to say that the atmosphere through the 90 minutes was poor and Charlton deserved more than a point. To me the significance lied after the final whistle.

With about 20 minutes left to go Dennis Irwin was substituted off in what was his last appearance for United. The standing ovasion was fitting for a player who has given his all for the club and who has been a loyal servant to the red cause.

On the final whistle I was proud to be a red. The charlton players were applauded off the pitch and each and every red was applauded one by one. Fergie thanked the fans for their support and a ten minute rendition of ‘every single one of us loves alex ferguson followed.’ Dennis was applauded yet again, as were Raimond and Ronny Johnsen who are leaving too.

Whilst we have no trophies it has still been an enjoyable season. When you feel agrieved about the empty trophy cabinets just remember how lucky we are to have had so much in the past, and that we will be challenging again next season. Could be worse, you could be a City fan!

I wish you all a good summer. Enjoy the World Cup and I will be writing again next season.
