Arsenal 3-1 Man Utd

Before the game it all looked bright and rosy. Following a great performance in Munich and a terrible display by Arsenal against Deportivo many reds felt this would be the day to defeat the red half of North London.

In the pouring rain the United fans filled the Clock End expecting a good solid performance and when Scholes struck home early on from a great team move I really felt we would hammer them.

80 minutes later we had not had another shot on target, we were 3-1 down, and to be truthful it could have been a lot more. Barthez will no doubt receive a lot of criticism for his two mistakes, but that overshadows the simple fact that the whole team did not play to their capability.

Veron was played off the park by Viera, and Silvestre was the only player who ran at their defence. They had a young unproven keeper in goal whom United whould have put under pressure, but it never happened.

The players’ response to Anfield seemed great; an easy win over Leicester and a gritty tough performance in Munich. But today reminded us that we should not be arrogant enough to think we can relax again and that the points will look after themselves.

Now the lads must take their frustrations out on Chelsea and Boavista, so that they have the confidence to go on a four month unbeaten run like ‘97.

Keep the red flag flying high, Man United will never die.
