Fulham 2 United 0

This game was all about bouncing back from the awful result at Old Trafford last week. However, it was not to be and another loss means the title race hbas been blown back open again. The papers will cry United in crisis but we are still top and still favourites. What we can say though is that this was a huge blow.

The sun was shining as we arrived in Fulham and walked down the river towards the ground. It was the perfect weather for a football match and the United end was in good voice before kick off with everyone confident that we could get back to winning ways. On the back of hammering them twice in recent weeks the players will have been confident too.

The line up was a little surprising with no Rooney, Carrick or Tevez in the starting line up. And that cost us. We started poorly, to many passes were misplaced and Fulham had the better of the game. Then a handball from Scholsey cost us the match as he was sent off and the penalty was converted. The United faithful applauded Scholes off the pitch but everyone knew this was now a huge mountain to climb. As it happened the team played terribly for the rest of the half and did well to go in only one down.

I don’t know what Fergie said at half time but it worked. We absolutely hammered them and only a world class goalkeeping display from Schwarzer prevented a goal. The main man was Rooney who had come on at the break, and he absolutely ran Fulham ragged. Yet the introduction of Tevez saw Rooney moved onto the right wing and suddenly our effectiveness was reduced. We still created chances and thought an equaliser was coming, but we were not as threatening as before. Yet we were always going to be vulnerable on the break as the game went on and shortly before the final whistle Gera scored and the match was over. United looked rattled, Rooney was hen sent off ridiculously and it all fell apart.

Most expected us to win this game but we did not. And now Vidic, Rooney and Scholes will all be suspended for the visit of Villa, at least however this gives them a rest before we play Porto two days later. We just have to hope that the players can turn on the style again against Villa and get three points as three losses in a row would really start to concern me.

Another bad day in the office and now two more weeks of worrying about it before we play again. Not a good day.
