Reading v Man Utd Preview

Location: Madejski Stadium
Date: Saturday, 19 January
Kick-off: 1500 GMT

This week, Man Utd News interviewed Manchester United Online forum member twoc2002, on his thoughts leading up to United’s clash with Reading.

1 - United travel to Reading on Saturday for a repeat of the opening day 0-0 draw at Old Trafford (the only points that United have dropped at home all season). Do you see this game being any different?

I’d expect Reading to try and make it difficult for us by going 4-5-1 with Doyle playing in midfield, but trying to join Kitson whenever he can. They’ve tried to play more expansively this season and have been spanked by the likes of Spurs and Portsmouth, so i think they’ll put the emphasis on frustrating us. If we score first we should be ok though.

2 - Reading have been struggling a bit of late, do you think they’ll be battling relegation come the end of the season?

They’ve probably got enough firepower to prevent them being relegated. They’re not in the 3 worst teams in the division.

3 - The last top four side that Reading faced ended in 3-1 victory over Liverpool, do you think that Reading may put in a performance like that against United on Saturday?

Only if we’re as arrogant as Liverpool and decide to rest players. Sir Alex should be experienced enough to know better.

4 - Which players do you see being the main cause for concern from the Reading side?

The front men, Doyle and Kitson both have quality and Stephen Hunt will give them plenty of energy.

5 - How do you see Fergie approaching this game in terms of team selection?

Best available 11 should start. VDS, Wes, Evra, Rio, Vidic, Ronaldo, Giggs, Anderson, Carrick, Tevez, Rooney.

6 - Which player(s) do you see as having the biggest impact on this fixture?

That boy Ronaldo is in blistering form, and Rooney cant be as unlucky as he was last week.

7 - Much is being made of United and Arsenal’s challenge for the title but Chelsea are quietly continuing about their business and are still only four points off the lead. The signing of Anelka should strengthen them considerably so do you see the title being a three way battle now that Liverpool are eleven points off the pace?

Yes. Theyre squad is probably the best in the league and they have the chance to take points off both us and the Arse when we play them as the Bridge.

8 - It doesn’t look like United will be strengthening the squad in January. What are your thoughts on this especially with the news of Saha’s injury and Neville still returning to full fitness?

Bit of a mistake really. We need a forward, and i dont really understand the point of waiting until the summer with fingers crossed that Tevez and Rooney will stay fit.

9 - Off topic slightly for this game but a topic of hot debate at the moment is Kevin Keegan’s return to Newcastle. How do you see that developing and can you see the Fergie, Keegan rivaly being reignited?

St James’s will be rocking in a few weeks when we play there and i’m sure Sky will hype it to death. Could make it a really tough game for us. There wont be a proper rivalry again between Keegan and Ferguson though, because Newcastle aren’t going to threaten the top 4 for the foreseeable future.

10 - Predict the score and goal scorers.

It’ll be a tight affair and we might nick it 2-1. Ronaldo and Vidic for us.
