United 4 Boro 1

Boro have a great record at Old Trafford and after a trip to Kiev earlier in the week this was a real test for United. Fortunately class, skill, pace and energy won the day with United running out 4-1 winners in a great performance.

This was the first time that all United’s summer signings appeared in the starting line up together. Hargreaves and Anderson controlled the midfield and dominated the game.

Anderson was especially impressive and his strength and energy was phenomenal. He only played in
Kiev by chance due to Evra’s injury in the warm up, but it was a blessing is disguise as he was arguably man of the match in both games this week. That is not to take anything away from Hargreaves who was also class and will play a big role at Arsenal next week no doubt. Ahead of the central midfield pairing was the duo of Rooney and Tevez. We all know what Rooney can do but now Tevez is equally

Wayne’s ability and between them they are ripping teams apart. There is almost a telepathic understanding between them now, summed up by Rooney’s backheel that found Tevez for the third goal. I still have no idea how Rooney knew where Tevez was – absolute quality. Lastly, Nani on the win was also a star player yesterday., scoring what is surely goal of the month after 3 minutes and continuing to put great crosses in all afternoon. He was also instrumental in the second goal, refusing to give up chasing the call, which eventually feel to Rooney as a result of the pressure.

In summary, the manager has bought brilliantly. Nani is not the showboater people thought he would be, Tevez and Rooney can have a great partnership,
Anderson is not just one for the future and Hargreaves is a top quality central midfield player. These players have been thrown into the deep end and could have sunk or swam. They have all managed to do the latter.

Boro were not scared of attacking United and had some good chances. After Nani’s wonder strike them equalised, and then had several chances to take the lead, namely Downing’s header that just went wide. Even after Rooney scored United’s second, they have a few chances late in the first half to pull it back level again. Fortunately they did not and United came out in the second half and put on a much improved performance. The one touch football, fast movement, tricks, flicks and work rate all left Old Trafford on its feet mesmerised by what the fans were watching.

That is now 4 goals in each of the last 4 matches- a club record. The wonderful thing is that each win could have been a lot more emphatic as United are wasting chances, the worrying thing is that we may well get punished for those misses against a team of more quality. Arsenal next week is a real test and has the potential to be an amazing game to watch too.
