Rooney Injury News

There’s finally some good news coming out of Old Trafford as Wayne Rooney appears to be ahead of schedule with his return from injury.

Rooney picked up the broken foot on the opening day of the season at home to Portsmouth and it was initially expected that he may be missing for up to three months. However, after returning from his latest x-ray, the healing process is ahead of schedule and it’s even being rumoured that he could make the bench for this coming weekend’s game against former club Everton.

However, a more realistic target would be the crucial game against Chelsea on the 23rd of September which would also mean Rooney missing the opening Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon.

Gary Neville is also expecting to be back in the next couple of weeks and is also targeting the Chelsea game.

“I probably did a bit too much, I was a bit over-excited getting back and I just felt my thigh a little bit,” he told MUTV. “It’s frustrating.

“Hopefully in the next week or two I’ll be back and I hope to be playing games in the next couple of weeks definitely.

“Because I’ve been out for such a long time I think the Everton game is going to be too soon, I think it will probably be after that.”

Meanwhile, Owen Hargreaves has returned to Old Trafford from the England training camp after failing to recover from a thigh injury. The news will mean that Gareth Barry will again partner Gerrard in midfield against the Russian’s as both Hargreaves and Lampard are ruled out.
