Portsmouth 1 United 4

Fratton Park is nto an easy place to go, let alone when your journey includes driving across London on a Saturday in December. Forget the match, just getting there was a harship and eventually we abandoned the car around 2 miles away and legged it as quickly as we could to get in to the ground on time. As usual, United were housed in what can only be called the ‘crap end’. Despite the awful facilities and crumbling concrete, we at least had the roof and in this weather that was worth the problem of the pillars in our way that supported it. The roof also keeps the noise in and means that the away fans can finally be heard over all the bell ringing and drum banging that irritates all vistors to Portsmouth. Read more

Chelsea 1 United 0

Leagues are not won or lost in early November, but large psychological blows can still be dealt. There was a feeling before the match that Chelsea might be able to shatter a stumbling United side, or that United could announce their intentions to up their game and stick two fingers up at some of the doubters. What ensued was actually a mixture of both. Chelsea got their five point lead and given us a hard, uphill struggle from now until May, but on the other hand the fact that a ‘weak’ United team outplayed and stifled the ‘incredible’ Chelsea side can be the source of much comfort. United 2 Blackburn 0

Let’s be honest, a 2-0 victory against Barnsley did not do much to cheer up United supporters 48 hours after the torture that was Anfield. That result still haunts me and whilst many United fans celebrated their exit from the Carling Cup and loss to Fulham in the league, all it did was annoy me more that everyone can finish them off except us. Maybe they are just a second rate team who cheat their manager by only turning it on in the big games against the likes of United and Real Madrid, but we should have ended their season last week and we failed to.
