United 1 Arsenal 0

There is something surreal about playing an English team in Europe and, standing in the Stretford End before kick off, it really did not feel like a Champions League fixture. The weather was lovely, it was still light as the teams came out onto the pitch and there was a slight nervousness in the air despite the fantastic atmosphere. The roar was amazing as the came started and the Arsenal fans could hardly be heard as they had been shoved up in the second tier of the East stand. Read more

United 5 Spurs 2

It has been a very busy week for football. The aftermath of the Wembley pitch fiasco has somewhat overshadowed Everton’s victory over us, and many United fans were too busy slating Ferguson’s team selection and Berbatov’s shambolic penalty to even recognise the significance of the win against Portsmouth after Liverpool dropped points in the thriller against Arsenal. Add to that the excitement ahead of the Champions League ties coming up, not to mention the tension between Rafa and Fergie, you can see why the sports journos have had been working late. Everton 0 United 0 (Everton win on penalties)

I did not make trip to Porto mid-week and was gutted to miss it. It was the first Euro away knock out game I had missed in 6 years since we played at the Bernabeu and it was one to savour as well. However, the thing that most were looking forward to in Portugal apart from a result was the weather, which turned out to be miserable and raining all day, unlike Wembley. On Sunday the bright blue sky and sunshine was perfect for a good day out but sadly the result meant it was the blue scousers celebrating. Read more

United 3 Villa 2

There is no game that is worth more than three points, yet some are certainly more significant than others. After 20 minutes against Liverpool the league seemedf to be over- United were effectively 10 points clear also with a game in hand. Yet what followed that day could have ruined United’s title charge- both the defeat at Fulham and Liverpool’s 5-0 win against Villa. And that brought us into this weekend which we all knew would have a big say in the title. I was in a good mood yesterday watching Liverpool as the second half died out and their first half dominance has not paid off. However, that moment when Benayoun smashed in the winner really got me and had me rattled. I knew how much pressure it put on us today and also knew how awful our players would have felt watching it. Let’s be honest, Liverpool looked like potential champions when that went in. They did what we have done time and time again and they have come back from the most abysmal run to be back in this title race. They have beaten us twice, beaten Chelsea twice, thumped Madrid and done most of it with Torres out as well as spells of injury for Gerrard. It has to be concerning that they are hitting form now at the worst possible time we could imagine. Read more
