I went to this game knowing it would be my last for a few months, due to an ankle operation which is currently keeping me sidelined. It has meant missing the trip to Tokyo and will keep me out until well after the Chelsea game, much to my dismay. So whilst I am an armchair fan I will get to see games from a different perspective, such as this morning having suffered the horror of Colin Murray, Andy Cole and Pat Nevin on Channel 5! Read more
The top Premier League sides are facing more and more defensive teams this season, reminding us all of Mourinho’s comments abour parking buses in front of the goal. United struggled to break down Bolton at home earlier in the season and only took the lead after a dodgy penalty decision, whilst Chelsea and Liverpool have dropped points at home which came as a surprise. Sunderland, with no manager and a week of crisis, would do al they could to cling on for the draw and so it was up to United to find the breakthrough.
It was about time we saw a goal in a United game and what better place to score it than away at City. After last season’s derby humiliations, especially the shambles on the Munich anniversary, United had a point to prove. City may have unlimited pots of money and their fans may sing “we’ll buy your club and burn it down” but there is only one team with any real stature and gravitas in Manchester. United went to the council house to prove it, and came away with three deserve points. Read more
