I wrote before Friday’s Super Cup that it was not of much importance to United supporters, and it seemed the players felt the same. I have no problem watching a decent Russian side lifting a trophy that is essentially the result of winning a glorified friendly, but I am concerned by the lack of creativity and penetration that United had. It is pretty much agreed that Berbatov or another striker is needed, and the last few games have only served to bump his price up even further. Portsmouth 0 United 1

Firstly please let me apologise for forgetting to write up the Newcastle home game. It started off as a very good day indeed- afterall we were welcoming home the European champions to Old Trafford. But as you all know, it ended with a pretty poor draw and United failing to find a way through the stubborn defence. It was a blow to lose points on the opening day and made the game at Fratton Park all the more important. Read more

United 0 Portsmouth 0 - Community Shield

This, as one text to me said today, is the perfect fixture to take wives, kidsĀ and girlfriends to. No hostility, a great stadium, and the summer sunshine were the reasons I chose to take my girlfriend to this, and it seemed like everyone else had made the same decision. It certainly was not the usual crowd and it lacked any form of tension or passion, but nevertheless it is always good to see United win silverware and of course doing it on pens brought back wonderful memories of Moscow. United 1 Espanyol 0 - Ole’s farewell

Oh how good it is to be back at Old Trafford. A summer without any proper football has seemed to last for an eternity and this was a chance to re-group and sing once more for both the European Champions and for Ole. Read more
