United flew out to Lyon on the back of a fantastic FA Cup result against Arsenal, but knew that they would be up against a team a lot more passionate and committed than the league leaders had been a few days before. Lyon have a strong record in Europe, play decent passing football, and few teams go there and get a win. However, United put in a good performance and came away with a score draw, leaving them as favourites to be in the hat for the next round. Read more
Other posts have been made below this one about the dramatic way in which United swept Arsenal aside in the FA Cup. But it cannot be emphasised enough just how up for this game United were and how the team beat Arsenal to virtually every loose ball or won almost every tackle. It was a tremendous performance that could possibly have a psychological impact in terms of the league, although only time will tell if United are able to overhall the 5 point gap. Read more
My opinion of a lot of our so called “supporters” went down during the Glazer takeover in which many either couldn’t be bothered to try and prevent it or were more than happy to just wait and see how things panned out but my opinion of some of them sank to an all time low after the Manchester derby.
Whether the occasion was overwhelming for some of United’s players or whether the fatigue of the International week took its toll is debatable but even the most biased United fan would have found it difficult to claim that we deserved three points in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
