Derby 2-2 Man Utd

I hope Derby get relegated. They are a small time club with small time fans, and do not belong in the big boys league. However, they were good for their point this afternoon.

The game started brightly with fast flowing football, and within 10 minutes Christie smashed the ball past Barthez and we were behind. The atmosphere from the travelling reds immediately built up and the lads started to take control of the play. Yet it was not until just before half time that Giggsy ripped Derby apart and squared the ball to Scholsey who smashed home.

Half time was one to remember. The concourse was full of optimistic reds singing in full voice throughout the break, confident of a second half victory. We seemed to have got it right when Veron took it past 2 men and hammered the ball into the corner from outside the area, before jumping into the middle of the United end. What followed was a great United performance, with chance after chance tearing Derby apart.

However, United did not score another goal that would have killed Derby off. During a stoppage a streaker ran onto the pitch and due to bad stewarding was allowed to run around for several minutes interrupting play. The guy was very amusing, swinging on the crossbar and then giving himself up to the police, but it seemed to change the course of the game.

Within a minute of play continuing Derby equalised and United were up against it. Strangely Giggs was replaced by Forlan, and in the end we were lucky to not lose. It was a very disappointing result, but a god performance and worth ther journey just for Veron’s finish alone.
